₦20.45 Billion Realised Under Oluremi @65 Education Fund for Completion of National Library Headquarters — First Lady Oluremi Tinubu
Monday, September 23, 2025 Abuja, Nigeria
In a landmark announcement from Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has revealed that the Oluremi @65 Education Fund has so far realised a total of ₦20,456,188,924.93 (Twenty billion, four hundred and fifty-six million, one hundred and eighty-eight thousand, nine hundred and twenty-four Naira, and ninety-three Kobo).
This substantial fund is being directed towards the long-awaited completion of the National Library Headquarters, a vital national infrastructure project that has faced numerous delays since its inception over a decade ago.
Speaking during an official briefing at the Presidential Villa on Monday, the First Lady expressed her deep gratitude to Nigerians, philanthropic organisations, and private sector donors who contributed generously to the fund in honour of her 65th birthday milestone.
“This fund represents not just a celebration of my 65 years, but a collective commitment to the future of Nigeria’s education sector. The National Library is not just a building; it is a national symbol of knowledge, literacy, and progress,” said Senator Tinubu.
The Oluremi @65 Education Fund was launched earlier this year as part of commemorative activities marking the First Lady’s 65th birthday. Its primary focus is the completion of the long-abandoned National Library complex in Abuja — a project that began in 2006 but has suffered setbacks due to funding and administrative challenges.
The First Lady also highlighted that the fund will be managed with full transparency and accountability, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the National Library Board, and reputable auditing firms to ensure the project’s timely and efficient delivery.
A National Priority
Education stakeholders, civil society groups, and members of the academic community have welcomed the news, describing it as “a renewed hope for literacy development in Nigeria.” The completion of the National Library is expected to significantly boost national reading culture, provide a hub for academic research, and house Nigeria’s archival wealth.
With the fund now surpassing ₦20 billion, authorities say the library could be fully completed and commissioned within the next 18 to 24 months.
The event marks a rare example of a private initiative making a direct and transformative impact on national infrastructure, further highlighting the First Lady’s evolving role as a champion of education and youth development in Nigeria.
