122,000 INSURGENTS SURRENDERED IN 11 YEARS — DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS

Abuja, Nigeria — 16 March 2026

The Defence Headquarters has disclosed that more than 122,000 insurgents have surrendered under the Operation HADIN KAI, since the establishment of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR in 2015.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, made this known in a statement, noting that troops across various operational theatres have continued to record significant successes through sustained clearance operations and rapid response missions.

According to him, troops of Operation HADIN KAI have maintained consistent pressure on terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), successfully repelling attacks and disrupting their supply chains.

Major General Onoja emphasized that the outcomes of these operations highlight the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustaining offensive actions against terrorist and criminal elements across the country.

He added that the increasing number of surrenders reflects the effectiveness of ongoing military operations and the impact of non-kinetic initiatives aimed at encouraging insurgents to lay down their arms.

The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed that the military will continue to intensify efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security across affected regions.
