NAOWA reaches out to 1,500 military wives and widows in Abuja with food items and encouragement as part of a humanitarian outreach.

Humanitarian Outreach Uplifts Soldiers’ Families in Abuja
In a show of compassion and solidarity, over 1,500 wives and widows of Nigerian Army personnel have received humanitarian support through a large-scale outreach organized by the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) in Abuja.
The event, held on Saturday, 28th June 2025, at the Guards Brigade Sports Complex, Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro, was led by NAOWA President Mrs. Mernan Femi Oluyede, represented by her deputy, Mrs. Bilkisu Ibrahim.

Strengthening the Barracks Community
The outreach, which also included members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) and Military Officers’ Wives Association (MIOWA), served as a platform to provide direct support to families of serving soldiers and widows of fallen heroes.

Mrs. Ibrahim, in her address, commended the women for their resilience, especially during the long absences of their spouses serving in conflict zones across the country. She urged them to remain prayerful, united, and supportive of national peace and security efforts.
“Your roles on the home front are vital to national stability,” she said, while calling for continued unity and love within the barracks.
Relief Items and Shared Moments
One of the highlights of the event was the distribution of food packages to all the beneficiaries, many of whom expressed gratitude for the support. The outreach also featured group photographs and moments of bonding among the women—fostering a deeper sense of community.
The initiative coincided with the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, which began on 27th June and ended with a grand finale in Kaduna State on 6th July.
A Commitment to Legacy and Welfare
This humanitarian gesture reinforced NAOWA’s commitment to preserving the legacy of service, especially for families who have lost loved ones in active duty. The outreach was a timely reminder that beyond uniforms and deployment, the Nigerian Army family remains united in care, compassion, and national service.
