Breaking News: Suspects Arrested for Alleged Production of Adulterated Alcohol in Lagos

Lagos, June 7, 2024 — Lagos authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the illegal production of adulterated alcoholic drinks at Oko-Arin Market on Lagos Island. The suspects, Ogujiofor Emeka, 41, and Desmond Chima, 31, were apprehended following a raid conducted by operatives from the CP Tactical Team, Eko.

Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement swiftly mobilized to the scene, where they found a substantial quantity of suspected counterfeit alcoholic beverages and production materials. The operation led to the seizure of various items, including five cartons of Jack Daniels, two cartons of Black Barrel, and one carton each of William Lawson, Jameson, Black Label, and Remy Martin drinks. Additionally, six cartons of empty Glenfiddich bottles, one carton of empty Divin Bardar bottles, and one carton of empty vodka bottles were confiscated, along with assorted labels and corks used in the production process.

While Emeka and Chima were detained, other suspects managed to escape. Preliminary investigations suggest that the adulterated drinks were being sold to customers in Cotonou, Benin Republic. Authorities are continuing their investigation to apprehend the remaining suspects and fully uncover the extent of the illegal operation.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of counterfeit alcohol production, which poses significant health risks to consumers and undermines legitimate businesses. The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on such illegal activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.

In a related development, it has been reported that several young individuals, aged 15 to 17, have been arrested in Ghana for prostitution. These arrests underscore the broader social challenges facing the region, necessitating concerted efforts by authorities to address various forms of illegal and exploitative activities.

The Lagos Police Command has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help combat crime and maintain public safety.
