#30DaysRantChallenge: Nigerians Vent Frustrations Over Economic Hardship Under Tinubu’s Administration, Label It ‘Worst Regime’ Ever

Nigerians on social media have intensified their criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as the “worst thing” to happen to the country, as more citizens join the #30DaysRantChallenge campaign. The online movement, which began on Saturday, has become a platform for Nigerians to express their frustrations over the rising cost of living, economic instability, and perceived poor governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.

The campaign, initiated by Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, has gained traction as Nigerians share their struggles with skyrocketing prices, unemployment, and worsening living conditions. Tamara (@sologididonatus), one of the participants, highlighted the dire economic realities in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We need to speak up; things are not getting good, they’re getting worse. My regular balance diet of groundnut, garri, and sugar is my saving grace due to the current economic realities.”

Many users echoed similar sentiments, lamenting the sharp increase in the cost of basic necessities. One user noted, “A plate of food that cost N150-N200 with meat in 2014 now costs N2000-N5000,” underscoring the severe impact of inflation on everyday life. The hashtag #30DaysRantChallenge has since trended on social media, with Nigerians from various regions sharing their experiences and calling for accountability from the government.

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, encouraged Nigerians to participate in the campaign, urging them to “rant persistently and consistently until we WIN!” Sowore’s call has resonated with many, but the discourse has also revealed deep divisions along ethnic and regional lines.

Some users, like @fomax112, argued that the revolution should start at the state level, criticizing the tendency to blame Tinubu alone while ignoring the roles of state governors and local government officials. “Let revolution start from everyone’s state of origin. Nigerians have successfully fallen into the trap of the politicians inadvertently, and it would make it absolutely inconceivable for revolution to happen because we are divided along tribal lines,” the user wrote. They also pointed out that the recent state of emergency in Rivers State received support from lawmakers across party lines, including members of the Labour Party, yet the blame is often directed solely at Tinubu.

Other participants, however, maintained that the federal government bears the primary responsibility for the country’s economic woes. @HM_HeadMaster wrote, “We Must Rant, Tinubu is a Terrible President, and we cannot continue moving from frying pan to fire all the time.” Similarly, @Qladele urged Nigerians to hold their local leaders accountable, stating, “I hope they know their local government chairman or councillors. They should go and complain to the state governors. Everything is not President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s fault.”

The #30DaysRantChallenge has sparked a broader conversation about governance, accountability, and the need for collective action to address Nigeria’s challenges. While some participants advocate for a nationwide revolution, others emphasize the importance of addressing issues at the state and local levels. The campaign has also highlighted the growing frustration among Nigerians, many of whom feel abandoned by their leaders and disillusioned with the political system.

As the campaign gains momentum, it underscores the urgent need for the Tinubu administration to address the economic hardships facing Nigerians. The widespread discontent reflected in the #30DaysRantChallenge serves as a stark reminder of the gap between the government’s promises and the realities on the ground. Whether the campaign will translate into tangible political action remains to be seen, but it has undoubtedly amplified the voices of ordinary Nigerians demanding change.

The Tinubu administration now faces mounting pressure to respond to these grievances and implement policies that alleviate the suffering of its citizens. As the #30DaysRantChallenge continues, it remains a powerful testament to the resilience and determination of Nigerians to hold their leaders accountable and fight for a better future.
