Violence Erupts in Angwa Rukuba-Etoo Baba Community, Jos: Farmer’s Residence Set Ablaze

Tension and chaos gripped the Angwa Rukuba-Etoo Baba community in Jos, Plateau State, as a group of enraged young individuals reportedly took matters into their own hands on Tuesday morning, setting fire to a farmer’s residence and poultry farm.

According to eyewitnesses, the group of youths first targeted the farmer’s residence, setting it ablaze in a fit of rage. They then proceeded to his poultry farm, where they not only stole his birds but also set the entire farm alight.

Mrs. Janet Haruna, a resident of the community, described the harrowing events, stating, “We need help in our Angwa Rukuba-Etoo Baba community in Jos North LGA because some angry youths have just set the house of a farmer on fire.”

“The fire has just burnt the house, including the cars packed in the farmer’s compound, and it has just spread to another building belonging to his neighbour.”

She continued, “From what I heard, the youth were angry because a security man working for the farmer was killed after he was accused of stealing some eggs from his poultry farm.”

“It was the farmer’s son who was alleged to have killed the security guard at the poultry farm. The son, who had been suspecting the security guard of stealing, was said to have caught him red-handed and started beating him; in the process, the security guard collapsed and died; then the youth came to their family house and set it ablaze. The corpse of the security guard has been evacuated to the hospital.”

The incident underscores the need for urgent intervention and conflict resolution measures in the community to prevent further escalation of violence and restore peace and order. Authorities are urged to swiftly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice while addressing the underlying issues fueling the unrest.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event, efforts must be intensified to promote dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation among all parties involved.
