Ogun State to Extend Lagos Blue Rail Line to Border Towns

The Ogun State government has announced plans to extend the Lagos Blue Rail Line project into the border towns of the state, aiming to enhance transportation infrastructure and foster economic development in the region.

Speaking at a media event to highlight the state’s 2024 budget, the State Commissioner of Finance and Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, emphasized the government’s commitment to surpassing the implementation of the 2023 budget. He outlined key initiatives aimed at driving sustained growth and development in the state, including the extension of the Lagos Blue Rail Line Project into Agbara and the expansion of the Lagos Red Rail Line Project to Ijoko and Ifo/Kajola.

The 2024 budget, tagged “The Budget of Sustained Growth and Development,” amounts to N703.03 billion, comprising N287.37 billion for recurrent expenditures and N415.66 billion for capital expenditures. Notable allocations include N95.05 billion for personnel costs, N27.35 billion for consolidated revenue, and N59.09 billion for public debt charges.

Okubadejo highlighted the state government’s strategic approach to addressing economic challenges, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development, debt management, and leveraging the state’s comparative advantages. He reiterated the government’s commitment to opening up Economic Development Clusters, optimizing logistics and innovation hubs, and fostering economic viability.

Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, commended the state’s budget performance, attributing it to visionary leadership and support from Governor Dapo Abiodun. He underscored the administration’s focus on debt management for survival and development purposes, striving to achieve sectoral global benchmarks.

In addition, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, outlined plans to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Works on road reconstruction projects, including the Sango-Owode-Idiroko road and Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta road. He assured completion of ongoing road projects across the state and emphasized the importance of community road development.

The extension of the Lagos Blue Rail Line into Ogun State signifies a significant step towards enhancing transportation connectivity and fostering economic growth in the region, aligning with the state government’s vision for sustained development and prosperity.
