Rivers State Government Unveils AI Plans to Boost Development

In a bid to harness the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Rivers State Government has revealed its intentions to integrate AI strategies into various sectors to enhance security and spur development. This disclosure was made by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, during an inter-ministerial interaction with the Executive Intelligence Management Course 17 of the National Institute of Security Studies.

The theme of the interaction, “Artificial Intelligence, Security, and Emerging Economies in Africa: Challenges and Prospects,” underscored the state government’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies for sustainable growth.

Dr. Danagogo highlighted the importance of adopting AI strategies and leveraging research findings from specialized institutions to address security challenges and drive development initiatives in Rivers State. He emphasized the need for comprehensive exploration of AI’s potential benefits and challenges, urging participants to proffer solutions to ethical concerns surrounding AI usage.

The Head of Service of Rivers State, Dr. George Nwaeke, provided insights into the application of AI for enhancing security and economic growth in the state. He outlined the prospects of AI implementation within the civil service and recommended futuristic strategies for leveraging AI’s potential.

The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, emphasized the significance of AI in navigating security and economic challenges in Africa. He called for collaborative efforts in infrastructure development, education, and policy-making to maximize the benefits of AI adoption.

Various commissioners and government officials also underscored the importance of AI in driving progress across different sectors. The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, highlighted the role of AI in education and public relations campaigns to address diverse challenges.

Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the Commissioner for Health, showcased the transformative impact of AI in the healthcare sector. She outlined initiatives such as the adoption of AI-powered drones for medical delivery and the revitalization of healthcare infrastructure in the state.

Fenibo Fubara, the Special Assistant on ICT to the Governor, emphasized ongoing collaborations between the state government and private entities to support local startups and enhance technological infrastructure.

The event featured presentations from various ministries and concluded with a tour of completed and ongoing projects in the state, highlighting the government’s commitment to leveraging AI for inclusive development and progress in Rivers State.
