Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to implement the enforcement of the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) starting on July 29, 2024, as part of efforts to enhance national security and public safety. This initiative, spearheaded by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, aims to modernize the motor vehicle registration system to better support police operations and combat vehicle-related crimes.

The e-CMR is an advanced, real-time online repository of motor vehicle data designed to assist in police investigations and operational activities, addressing crimes such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery. By transitioning to a digital system, the NPF intends to streamline the documentation and verification processes for vehicle ownership and related transactions.
The system will facilitate services like change of ownership, license number, engine, and chassis/body, ensuring the validation of vehicle genuineness and ownership. This will enhance the ability to track and recover stolen vehicles, preventing the purchase of stolen vehicles by unsuspecting buyers.
In preparation for the enforcement, the IGP has mandated extensive public awareness campaigns about the e-CMR and its benefits. Vehicle owners are encouraged to obtain the digitalized CMR certificate online at cmris.npf.gov.ng. For further inquiries, individuals can contact the CMR Command Centre in Abuja at 08117777666, 09169892000, and in Lagos at 08117777555, 09169891000. Technical support is also available via email at cmrtech@npfcmr.ng.
The NPF seeks the cooperation and support of all Nigerians and residents, emphasizing that the enforcement of the e-CMR is crucial for ensuring a safer environment for vehicle ownership. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce vehicle theft and the sale of stolen vehicles, enhancing overall public safety and security. Vehicle owners are urged to promptly embrace this digital system for optimal safety and compliance.
