Woman Jumps Off Third Mainland Bridge, Found Dead

A yet-to-be-identified woman plunged into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Friday afternoon and was later recovered dead. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront, according to eyewitnesses. Marine police officers stationed in the area swiftly responded to the emergency and recovered the body, but despite their efforts, she was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

Eyewitnesses at the scene attributed the incident to suicide, although the immediate and remote causes remain unconfirmed. The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that the woman was recovered by marine police officers and pronounced dead by UNILAG medical doctors.

“Today, March 13, 2025, at about 1600 hours, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the UNILAG waterfront at approximately 1500 hours. She was recovered at the University of Lagos shore slipway by a team of marine police officers stationed in the area. Despite their efforts, she was confirmed dead by a team of UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division,” Hundeyin stated.

Body Evacuated to Mortuary

The deceased’s body has been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation. Hundeyin added that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the identity of the woman and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
