The Acting Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, has assented to the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a total budget of ₦892.448 billion for the state.
The signing ceremony took place at the Acting Governor’s Office in Maiduguri, marking the formal commencement of the 2026 fiscal year framework for governance and development in Borno State.
According to Mohammed Goni, the 2026 budget was carefully designed to address the state’s most pressing needs, with strong emphasis on sectors that directly impact citizens’ welfare. The document reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable development, improved service delivery, and the consolidation of post-insurgency recovery efforts across the state.
The budget had earlier been passed by the Borno State House of Assembly following detailed deliberations. Acting Governor Kadafur initially presented a ₦890.33 billion budget proposal to the legislature, covering allocations to ministries, departments, and agencies, with priority given to education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and the rehabilitation and reintegration of internally displaced persons.
After thorough scrutiny, the House approved an increase of about ₦2.37 billion, raising the total budget size to ₦892.45 billion.
Speaking on the adjustment, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, explained that the additional funds were largely earmarked to strengthen the health and education sectors. He noted that part of the increase would fund the construction of a lecture theatre at the College of Nursing and improve infrastructure at the College of Health Technology, Maiduguri.
The Speaker assured the executive of the legislature’s continued cooperation to ensure effective implementation of the budget and the delivery of meaningful dividends of democracy to the people of Borno State.
The Acting Governor commended the House of Assembly for its diligence and reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to ensure prudent utilization of resources in advancing development, stability, and improved living conditions for residents of the state.
