Tunji Afolayan Celebrates Nollywood Milestones, Reflects on Awards and Creative Journey

Renowned Nollywood art director, Tunji Afolayan, continues to make significant contributions to Nigeria’s film industry, earning multiple recognitions for his creative work and dedication to cinematic excellence.
Afolayan’s latest project, Seven Doors, has garnered widespread acclaim, securing six nominations at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). The film also earned him the Best Art Director award at the Best of Nollywood Awards, alongside nominations at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and several other industry recognitions.
Speaking during a recent chat while marking his birthday, Afolayan expressed deep gratitude to God for the accolades and recognition he has received over the years. He described the awards as encouraging milestones that affirm the value of dedication and hard work in the creative industry.
According to him, receiving nominations is an important indicator that one is making meaningful contributions to the industry.
Afolayan also highlighted his commitment to mentoring emerging talents, noting that he has trained several new art directors who are now making their mark in Nollywood. However, he emphasized that art direction requires creativity, strong artistic vision, and specialized talent.
“Art direction is not for everyone,” he noted, stressing that the profession demands a high level of artistic ability and perseverance to succeed.
The award-winning art director began his professional journey in 2005 with Mainframe Productions, where he honed his craft and developed a reputation for excellence in film production design.
With numerous awards, nominations, and years of industry experience, Afolayan remains a prominent figure in Nollywood, continuing to shape the visual storytelling landscape of Nigeria’s thriving film industry.
