IJEBU IMUSIN, OGUN STATE

The Festus Adebanjo Care Foundation has taken a significant step towards promoting the welfare of elderly people in Ijebu Imusin with the launch of its Elderly Day Centre and a fundraising initiative to procure a bus for the foundation’s elderly care activities.

The event, held on Saturday, 24 October 2026, at Oke-Oja, beside St. Mary’s Primary School, Ijebu Imusin, Ogun State, was organised in honour of the late Pa Festus Adebanjo Kuyoro, whose memory the foundation seeks to preserve through a legacy of compassion, care and service to humanity.

The initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to improving the quality of life of elderly residents and encouraging a stronger culture of community support for senior citizens.

A Lasting Legacy of Love and Compassion

The establishment of the Elderly Day Centre represents a meaningful effort to provide a dedicated platform for elderly care in Ijebu Imusin. It underscores the importance of treating older people with dignity, respect and compassion while recognising their invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the community.

Through the initiative, the foundation seeks to promote an environment where elderly people can receive attention, social support and assistance in meeting some of their needs.

By dedicating the foundation to the memory of Pa Festus Adebanjo Kuyoro, the organisers have transformed a family tribute into an initiative with the potential to benefit the wider community.

Fundraising for a Dedicated Bus

A key objective of the ceremony was to raise funds for the procurement of a bus to support the foundation’s elderly care operations.

The proposed bus is expected to enhance transportation support for the foundation’s programmes and help address some of the mobility challenges that elderly people may face when accessing care and participating in relevant activities.

The fundraising initiative also provides an opportunity for philanthropists, corporate organisations, community leaders, well-meaning individuals and sons and daughters of Ijebu Imusin to contribute towards a project designed to improve the welfare of senior citizens.

Continued support from these stakeholders will be important in helping the foundation strengthen its operational capacity and pursue its objectives.

Community Responsibility and Elderly Welfare

The launch of the Elderly Day Centre highlights the importance of collective responsibility in caring for older members of society.

As communities develop, the welfare of senior citizens must remain an important consideration. Many elderly people require not only material assistance but also companionship, attention, accessible services, and the reassurance that they remain valued members of their communities.

The foundation’s initiative therefore provides an opportunity to encourage greater participation in elderly welfare and inspire other individuals and organisations to support programmes that improve the lives of vulnerable members of society.

A Call for Sustained Support

Although the launch marks an important milestone, sustained community participation will be essential to the long-term success of the foundation’s mission.

Support through donations, partnerships, and other contributions can help advance the bus project and strengthen the foundation’s ability to serve elderly residents in Ijebu Imusin.

The foundation’s guiding message, “Together We Can Care for Our Elders,” captures the spirit of unity and compassion required to make elderly care a shared community responsibility.

The event has brought renewed attention to the importance of honouring the older generation through practical action and ensuring that their welfare remains a priority.

As the Festus Adebanjo Care Foundation continues its work, its commitment to Care, Compassion, and Community stands as a reminder that caring for the elderly is not merely an act of kindness but an investment in human dignity and the values that bind communities together.
