FRSC Commences Nationwide Crackdown On Fake Number Plates

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced the second phase of its special intervention patrol, code-named Operation Guduma, as part of renewed efforts to tackle the growing menace of fake, covered, defaced and obsolete vehicle number plates on Nigerian roads.

In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Ohaeri Osondu, the Corps said the five-day operation, scheduled to run from Monday, November 2, to Friday, November 6, 2026, represents an intensified commitment to strengthening road safety enforcement and addressing emerging security concerns associated with the unlawful use of vehicle registration plates.
The statement further disclosed that the intervention would be carried out across selected states, with specially designated senior officers deployed to coordinate and supervise the exercise.
The FRSC explained that the operation is aimed at ensuring compliance with vehicle registration regulations, identifying motorists using unauthorised number plates and preventing the misuse of vehicle registration details.
The Corps also noted that the exercise would strengthen efforts to improve vehicle identification and accountability, particularly as fake or concealed number plates can make it difficult for security agencies to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities and traffic violations.
It urged motorists to ensure that their vehicle number plates are genuine, valid, clearly visible and properly displayed in accordance with existing regulations.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining enforcement operations aimed at promoting safer roads, improving security and ensuring greater compliance with traffic regulations across the country.
