INEC Flags Off Mega Voter Registration Exercise in Lagos Central
Lagos, Nigeria | April 7, 2026
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has flagged off its Mega Voter Registration Exercise in Lagos Central, as part of efforts to expand voter access and enhance citizen participation in the electoral process.
The flag-off ceremony took place at Ajele Sports Complex (Campos), Lagos Island, and was led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Lagos State, Ayobami Salami, alongside members of the Commission’s management team in the state.
The introduction of the Mega Centre is aimed at addressing the high influx of prospective registrants in densely populated urban areas. It is designed to reduce congestion at existing registration points while providing faster and more efficient services through the deployment of additional personnel and equipment.
INEC noted that the initiative will also bring voter registration services closer to citizens in strategic locations, thereby improving accessibility and enhancing the overall voter experience.
The exercise, which commenced on April 7, 2026, offers a wide range of services, including fresh registration for new voters, transfer of registration, updates or correction of voter details, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Speaking at the event, Prof. Salami urged eligible residents, especially first-time voters, to take advantage of the exercise and actively participate in Nigeria’s democratic process. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is disenfranchised.
The registration exercise is scheduled to run until April 12, 2026, across designated centres, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., as INEC continues its drive to deepen voter inclusion and strengthen the integrity of the electoral system.
