Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and local volunteer forces, have successfully foiled a major bandit attack in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

The joint operation targeted armed bandits advancing on Bagna and Erena communities. Acting on credible intelligence, security forces laid an ambush for the attackers, who were reportedly over 300 in number and moving on motorcycles.

During the encounter, scores of the bandits were neutralised, while others fled towards the Makuba and Allawa axis under sustained pressure from the troops.

Residents of the affected communities commended the swift and coordinated response of the security forces, noting that the intervention averted what could have been a devastating attack.

Security sources also highlighted that the increasing collaboration between security agencies and local volunteer groups is significantly strengthening frontline defence and helping to close existing security gaps in vulnerable communities.
