A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), alongside two other defendants,

following their arraignment on charges yet to be fully determined by the court.

The presiding judge approved bail after hearing submissions from both the prosecution and defence counsel, ruling that the defendants are entitled to bail pending the commencement of full trial. The court set bail conditions which include the provision of sureties and the submission of relevant travel documents, while adjourning the matter to a later date for further proceedings.


Counsel to Malami welcomed the ruling, describing it as a reaffirmation of the principle that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Prosecutors, on their part, stated that they are prepared to diligently pursue the case in line with due process.
Security operatives were present in and around the court premises as the hearing attracted significant public and media attention. Supporters and observers were seen monitoring developments closely.
