AFIT Convocation Redefines Nigerian Excellence Through the Eyes of a Student — Yahaya Abubakar
Kaduna, Nigeria | April 7, 2026
The recently concluded combined 2nd, 3rd, and 4th convocation ceremony of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) has been described as a powerful reflection of Nigeria’s capacity for excellence, as captured in a student account by Yahaya Abubakar.
Held at the Ibrahim Alfa Hall in Kaduna, the ceremony drew an array of dignitaries, including senior military officers, former Chiefs of the Air Staff, and leaders across sectors. However, beyond the grandeur, the event left a profound impression on attendees, particularly students, who witnessed what many described as a living testament to discipline, innovation, and high academic standards.
Yahaya Abubakar, a final-year International Relations student, noted that the ceremony went beyond a traditional academic gathering, offering deeper insight into the institution’s role in shaping future leaders. He highlighted the outstanding performance of the graduating class, including a notable number of First Class honours, as evidence that AFIT is committed to building national capacity rather than merely awarding degrees.
A key highlight of the event was the convocation lecture delivered by Bright Echefu, President and Managing Director of EIB Group. His remarks on the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing Nigeria’s aerospace industry resonated strongly with the audience.
Echefu’s testimonial on AFIT graduates working within his organisation further underscored the institution’s growing reputation. Describing them as “second to none,” he revealed plans to recruit more graduates and expand internship opportunities, a move that many saw as a strong endorsement of AFIT’s quality and relevance in today’s workforce.
The convocation also spotlighted the leadership of the Commandant, AK Ademuwagun, whose administration has been credited with sustaining a culture of excellence through discipline, accountability, and visionary direction. This is further reinforced by the continued support and investment of the Nigerian Air Force, positioning AFIT as a strategic institution for national development.
For students and observers alike, the event provided not just inspiration but a clear vision of Nigeria’s potential when institutions are empowered to thrive. From aerospace innovation and defence manufacturing to diplomacy and emerging technologies, AFIT continues to demonstrate its role in producing globally competitive talent.
Abubakar concluded that the convocation reaffirmed AFIT’s status as a citadel of excellence, emphasizing that graduates leave not only with academic qualifications but with a responsibility to uphold the institution’s standards and contribute meaningfully to national and global development.
