Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Village Head, Recover AK-47 Rifle in Mbo LGA

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a village head, Chief Edet, for allegedly being in possession of an illegal AK-47 rifle in Mbo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as the village head of Asik Ubofa Fishing Settlement in Effiat Clan, was apprehended following credible intelligence indicating that he was in possession of prohibited firearms.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, upon receiving the intelligence, directed operatives of the Command to carry out a coordinated operation to verify the information and take necessary action.
Acting swiftly, detectives stormed the suspect’s residence and successfully recovered one AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines.
The statement added that the suspect is currently in police custody, while a discreet investigation has commenced to determine the source of the firearm, uncover his motives, and identify any possible accomplices.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ridding the state of illegal arms and ensuring the safety and security of residents.
