Alleged Involvement of Soldiers in Theft at Dangote Refinery Sparks Concern

The Nigerian Army (NA) has expressed grave concern over the reported involvement of two of its personnel in an alleged theft incident at the Dangote Refinery located in Lagos.

The incident, which was thwarted by the timely intervention of vigilant troops and private security operatives stationed at the refinery, has been described as unacceptable and regrettable by the NA, as it does not align with the ethical standards and values of the army.

Following the incident, the two suspects have been apprehended and are currently in custody. Preliminary investigations suggest that the soldiers were hired by a civilian contractor identified as Mr. Smart, who purportedly claimed to be retrieving Armoured cables he had left on the refinery premises. However, upon approaching the security post, the contractor absconded, leaving the soldiers behind.

Further inquiries are underway to ascertain the extent of the soldiers’ involvement in the incident. Moreover, the stolen cables have been recovered and are securely held.

The NA is collaborating with the management of Dangote Refinery to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Assuring the public of decisive action, the NA emphasized its commitment to upholding discipline and integrity within its ranks. It reiterated its stance against any form of criminal behavior among its personnel, reaffirming its dedication to fostering a culture of accountability and ethical conduct.
