AMAECHI REJECTS ADC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES RESULTS, CITES WIDESPREAD DISENFRANCHISEMENT AND ELECTORAL MALPRACTICES

ABUJA, NIGERIA — MAY 27, 2026

Former Rivers State Governor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the results of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, alleging widespread disenfranchisement and electoral irregularities during the exercise.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, Amaechi described the results being announced by the party as “concocted,” insisting that the process failed to meet the standards of fairness, transparency, and credibility.

The former minister maintained that he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the election was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi stated.
“I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the Primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word,” he added.

Amaechi alleged that a significant percentage of party members across the country were denied the opportunity to participate in the voting process, describing the situation as unacceptable for a party that claims to stand for democratic values.
According to him, nearly 80 percent of eligible party members were allegedly disenfranchised during the exercise.

“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results. Then what makes us different from the others?” he questioned.

The former Rivers governor further expressed concern over what he described as electoral malpractices and irregularities that undermined the integrity of the primary election.
Amaechi’s rejection of the outcome is expected to heighten tensions within the ADC as the party prepares for the 2027 general election.
As of the time of filing this report, the leadership of the African Democratic Congress had not officially responded to Amaechi’s allegations.
