Maiduguri, Borno State — 2025

Borno State has concluded its local government council elections, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning all the chairmanship seats across the state’s 27 local government areas.
The results were announced at the headquarters of the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC) in Maiduguri by the commission’s Chairman, Dr Tahiru Shettima.

Dr Shettima described the election as peaceful, credible and largely hitch-free, noting that the exercise was conducted successfully despite the state’s security challenges. He commended the security agencies for ensuring the safety of voters and election officials throughout the process.
He also praised electoral officers for their professionalism and dedication, as well as voters for turning out to exercise their civic rights in an orderly manner.

According to the BOSIEC chairman, the commission adhered strictly to electoral guidelines and ensured transparency at all stages of the process, from voting to collation of results.
The outcome of the elections further consolidates the APC’s political dominance in the state at the grassroots level, as newly elected council chairmen are expected to assume office in line with the state’s electoral timetable.

Stakeholders have called on the incoming local government officials to prioritize development, security and service delivery in their respective councils to improve the welfare of residents across Borno State.
