ARIK AIR DIVERTS SAFELY TO BENIN FOLLOWING ENGINE ANOMALY

Arik Air’s Boeing 737 aircraft safely diverted to Benin Airport on Wednesday morning, 11 February 2026, after the crew reported an engine anomaly while en route from Lagos to Port Harcourt.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has confirmed that during the cruise phase of the flight, the crew observed abnormal indications on one of the aircraft’s engines. Following standard safety procedures, the affected engine was shut down, and the aircraft made a safe landing at Benin Airport.
Thankfully, no injuries were recorded among passengers or crew.
NSIB has launched an official investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the engine issue. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days, in compliance with international civil aviation standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Authorities emphasized that the swift response by the flight crew prevented any escalation, highlighting the effectiveness of safety protocols in Nigerian aviation.
