Armed Bandits Attack NCS Post; A Customs Officer Paid the Supreme Price in Defence of the Fatherland
Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State – November 10, 2025
Suspected armed bandits, believed to be members of the notorious Lakurawa sect, launched a deadly attack on a Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) outpost in Maje, a community in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Preliminary reports revealed that the attackers, who arrived in large numbers, stormed the facility late Sunday night and opened fire indiscriminately, engaging the officers on duty in a fierce gun duel.
Tragically, one Customs officer, Deputy Superintendent Sadiq Muhammad, lost his life in the line of duty while defending the post. His death has been described by colleagues and community members as a heroic sacrifice in service to the nation.
Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of chaos as the sound of gunfire echoed through the community, forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety. “It was terrifying. We could only hear gunshots and people shouting. Everyone ran for their lives,” one resident said.
Security reinforcements were swiftly deployed to the area to restore calm and pursue the assailants, who reportedly escaped into the surrounding forests.
The funeral prayer for the late officer was held at the Abdullahi Fodio Palace in Birnin Kebbi on Monday morning, attended by Governor Nasir Idris, senior Customs officials, security chiefs, and members of the bereaved family.
Confirming the incident, Salisu Tajuddeen, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, said:
“We can confirm that one of our officers, Deputy Superintendent Sadiq Muhammad, paid the supreme price during an attack on our outpost in Maje. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.”
Tajuddeen added that the Service remains committed to its duty of safeguarding the nation’s borders despite the growing threat of armed banditry in parts of the northwest.
The Kebbi State Government and the Nigeria Customs Service have both condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act against those dedicated to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
As investigations continue, security agencies have intensified surveillance and patrols along the state’s border communities to prevent further incursions and ensure the safety of residents.
