ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF SUSPECTED EXPLOSIVE MATERIALS

ZAMFARA STATE POLICE COMMAND, GUSAU, 28th January, 2026

The Zamfara State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of a suspect in connection with the unlawful possession of suspected explosive materials.
On 27th January, 2027, at about 1615 hours, operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, carried out a successful operation which led to the arrest of a suspect.
The suspect, Mustapha Mohammad, a 38-year-old male, was apprehended while driving a Toyota Corolla. A thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of nine hundred and fifty-four (954) pieces of suspected explosive materials, which were concealed in polyethylene bags.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered items were suspected to have been intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The suspect is currently in police custody, while the exhibits have been properly secured and formally handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team for safe custody and detailed forensic analysis.

Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, destination, and intended use of the recovered materials, as well as to identify and apprehend other possible accomplices connected to the crime. Further developments will be communicated to the public as investigations progress.
