Borno: Zulum Gifts Food Items to Christian Widows, Vulnerable Persons
Maiduguri, Borno State December, 2025.
Monday Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has distributed essential food items to widows and other vulnerable members of the Christian community as part of activities to support them ahead of the Christmas celebrations.
The humanitarian gesture is expected to benefit over 6,000 people across the state. Among the beneficiaries are 1,605 internally displaced persons (IDPs), each of whom received a bag of rice, one carton of spaghetti, and a gallon of cooking oil.
The distribution exercise took place on Monday in Maiduguri and forms part of the state government’s broader social welfare and inclusive governance policy aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, regardless of religious or ethnic background.
Governor Zulum noted that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to promoting unity, compassion, and peaceful coexistence among residents of the state, especially during festive periods.
This year’s event continues a tradition that began with Governor Zulum’s inauguration in 2019. For the past five years, his administration has consistently provided support to Christian communities during Christmas, as well as similar assistance to Muslim communities during Islamic festivities.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the governor for the timely support, describing the gesture as a sign of hope and reassurance amid ongoing economic and security challenges in the region.
