Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and founder of the Dangote Group, has officially announced the commencement of petrol production at the highly anticipated Dangote Refinery. The announcement marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s energy sector.

During a press briefing, Dangote expressed his profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for authorizing the sale of crude oil in Naira, a move that is expected to bolster local production and reduce the nation’s dependency on foreign exchange for fuel imports. As a symbolic gesture, Dangote presented the first sample of the newly produced petrol to the press.
However, key details regarding the distribution of the product, including the specific roles of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and other marketers, remain unclear. Additionally, the price at which the petrol will be sold to consumers has not yet been disclosed. Industry experts and stakeholders are keenly awaiting further information as the refinery’s operations ramp up.
