BREAKING: Lagos State Orders Additional 100 Refuse Compactor Trucks from Dangote’s Truck Assembly Plant
Lagos, Nigeria — June 10, 2024 — Lagos State has announced the purchase of an additional 100 refuse compactor trucks from Dangote’s Truck Assembly Plant. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the announcement during the commissioning of the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) Plant in Lagos State.

This new acquisition follows the earlier procurement of 102 compactor trucks in 2022 for the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). The decision to order more trucks underscores the state government’s commitment to improving waste management and sanitation in Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the importance of this investment in enhancing the state’s waste collection efficiency. “With the commissioning of the CKD Plant, we are not only boosting local manufacturing but also significantly improving our capacity to manage waste effectively,” he said.

The additional trucks are expected to bolster LAWMA’s fleet, ensuring better waste management and cleaner environments across Lagos. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to address the challenges of urban waste in one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities.
The assembly plant with a capacity to assemble and produce 10,000 trucks annually will be scaled up to 13,000 trucks annually with the commissioning of the new CKD plant.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the facility, Hikmat Thapa, majority of the fabrication and assembly lines are being handled by trained Nigerians.
He stated that the vision of the plant is to assemble and produce a full range of commercial vehicles tailored to the specific needs of the market.
“From heavy-duty trucks to medium trucks, light trucks, and semi-trailers, our aim is to meet the growing demand for reliable transportation across various sectors, including logistics, construction, and food and beverage industries,” he added.
