BREAKING: Nasir El-Rufai Defends Integrity Amidst Kaduna State Assembly Probe
Kaduna, June 5, 2024 — Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has strongly defended his tenure, affirming that he conducted himself with honesty and integrity throughout his time in office. This response comes in reaction to a report suggesting an investigation into his administration by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
In a statement released through his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai expressed his satisfaction with his accomplishments in public service and dismissed the claims of the ad-hoc committee as unfounded and politically motivated.
“We are aware of news that the Kaduna State House of Assembly has adopted the report of the ad-hoc committee it asked to probe the El-Rufai government. We have not been availed a copy of the report, to which we would respond robustly whenever we obtain it. We affirm the integrity of the El-Rufai government and dismiss the scandalous claims being aired as the report of the committee,” the statement read.
El-Rufai highlighted his pride in his administration’s record, emphasizing that his legacy in Kaduna State reflects a consistently high performance in both public and private office. He argued that no attempt to defame him through the state legislature would alter this legacy.
“Malam Nasir El-Rufai is immensely proud of his record of governance and the legacy he left in Kaduna State. This record of consistently high performance in public and private office cannot be altered by any malicious effort to use the auspices of a state legislature for defamation and undeserved smears,” he stated.
The former governor also noted that many officials from his administration had cooperated with the ad-hoc committee, confident in the integrity of their service. However, he criticized the committee for what he perceived as a lack of fairness and decency in their proceedings.
“It was obvious that the ad hoc committee was merely going through the motions of an inquiry just to give some gloss to predetermined conclusions,” El-Rufai remarked. “It is sad to see such a shameful departure from any notion of decency and fairness by a state legislature. We dismiss with contempt the claims being peddled in connection with the report.”
El-Rufai assured Nigerians that he served Kaduna State with the utmost integrity, complying with all relevant laws during his tenure. He urged the public to disregard the probe, labeling it as a politically motivated effort to tarnish his reputation.
“Malam El-Rufai wishes to assure discerning Nigerians that he has served Kaduna State with integrity and to the best of his capacity, assisted by a hardworking and patriotic team. He complied with all extant laws in all his activities while he was the governor. This jaundiced probe should be disregarded as the politically motivated hatchet job it is,” the statement concluded.
