The death toll from the latest attacks in Plateau State’s Bokkos Local Government Area has climbed to 52 after search teams recovered 40 additional bodies between Wednesday and Thursday. The violence has left communities devastated as authorities continue searching for missing persons.
Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council Vanguard, confirmed 31 victims were given a mass burial on Thursday. The attacks claimed lives across multiple villages:
- 5 children burned to death in Hurti
- 11 killed in Ruwi
- 4 dead in Manguna
- 1 fatality in Daffo
Plateau State Commissioner for Information Joyce Ramnap condemned the attacks, calling them a setback to peace efforts. Security forces have deployed to affected areas and made several arrests.
This latest violence follows December’s Christmas Eve massacre that killed over 200 and May’s attack in Wase that left 40 dead. Religious and community leaders are urging restraint while authorities work to restore order.
The state government has promised enhanced security measures and appealed to residents to avoid reprisals, emphasizing their commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice.
