Early this morning, the police at the Tsanyawa Division in Kano State made a significant arrest during a routine stop and search operation. Hassan Ilyasu, a 35-year-old from Alhazawa Village in Musawa LGA, Katsina State, was apprehended at approximately 0600 hours. The suspect was found in possession of two AK-47 rifles with fully loaded magazines of live ammunition and a sum of ₦4,986,000 concealed inside a folded sack.

The arrest comes amid the ongoing “End Bad Government” protests sweeping across Nigeria, highlighting widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration. The discovery of weapons and substantial cash has raised concerns about the potential escalation of violence during the demonstrations.
Authorities have not disclosed the specific intentions of Hassan Ilyasu, but his arrest underscores the heightened state of alert and the rigorous security measures being enforced by the police.
Further investigations are underway to determine the source of the weapons and cash, as well as any possible connections to larger networks involved in the protests.
The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order during the protests and have called on citizens to exercise their rights peacefully. “We urge everyone to conduct their demonstrations within the bounds of the law. Any form of violence or illegal activity will be met with strict enforcement measures,” stated a spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command.
Updates on the investigation and the broader implications of this arrest will be provided as more information becomes available.
