Bruno Labbadia Appointed as 37th Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles

Abuja, August 27, 2024 — The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially announced the appointment of German football tactician Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of Nigeria’s Senior Men’s National Team, the Super Eagles. This decision was confirmed by the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, in a statement released early Tuesday morning.

“The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect,” Dr. Sanusi declared.

Labbadia, born in Darmstadt, Germany, on February 8, 1966, brings a wealth of experience to the role. During his playing career, he earned two caps for the German national team, Die Mannschaft, and played for several top clubs, including Hamburger SV, FC Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, FC Cologne, Werder Bremen, Arminia Bielefeld, and Karlsruher SC. Notably, he was part of the Bayern Munich squad that clinched the German Bundesliga title in 1994.

Transitioning into coaching, Labbadia has held managerial positions at several renowned clubs, including VfB Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin. His experience in the Bundesliga, both as a player and a coach, is expected to bring a new dimension to the Super Eagles as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.

Labbadia becomes the 37th head coach in the history of the Super Eagles, taking over at a critical time as Nigeria aims to solidify its status as a football powerhouse on the African continent and beyond.
