CBN Announces Additional Staff Layoffs, Sources Reveal

In a recent development at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), sources report that more than 50 staff members were terminated from various departments on Monday, April 8, 2024. This latest wave of layoffs targeted employees in the Department of Development Finance, Procurement and Support Services, and the Medical Services Department.

According to insider information, the majority of those affected by the recent layoffs were junior staff members, including assistant managers and deputy managers. These employees had previously worked under the supervision of the executives who were recently let go from their positions.

This announcement comes shortly after the termination of 40 staff members last Friday, signaling a continued restructuring process within the central bank.

The reasons behind these layoffs remain undisclosed, and the CBN has yet to issue an official statement regarding the recent terminations. However, the successive rounds of staff layoffs have sparked concerns among employees and industry observers alike.

As the situation unfolds, affected staff members are left grappling with uncertainty while awaiting further clarification from CBN authorities. The impact of these layoffs on the bank’s operations and workforce dynamics remains to be seen, raising questions about the future direction of the institution.
