Abuja, Nigeria | September 27, 2025
Charles Alfa, a distinguished journalist with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), has been honored with the prestigious Most Outstanding Reporter on Climate & Environment Award. The recognition was jointly presented by Oxfam and the African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ), organizations known for championing climate justice and environmental advocacy across the continent.
Alfa’s award celebrates his outstanding commitment to investigative journalism and storytelling that brings to light the often-overlooked environmental and climate-related issues affecting communities in Nigeria and beyond. His in-depth reporting has spotlighted the devastating impacts of deforestation, desertification, oil pollution, and the climate crisis on vulnerable populations—especially in rural and underserved regions.
In a statement during the award presentation, representatives from Oxfam and AACJ praised Alfa for his consistency, integrity, and passion in using media as a tool to drive climate awareness and environmental protection. “Charles Alfa exemplifies the power of journalism in shaping public discourse and policy on climate justice. His work stands as a beacon of truth in the fight against environmental degradation,” the organizers noted.
Alfa expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the urgent need for continued environmental advocacy in Nigeria. “This award is not just for me, but for every journalist committed to exposing the realities of climate change and environmental neglect. We must keep telling these stories until they spark action,” he said.
With this recognition, Alfa joins a growing list of African journalists being acknowledged for their role in driving climate justice through bold and courageous reporting. His work continues to inspire a new generation of reporters committed to using their platforms for positive environmental change.
