In a memorandum addressed to Mr. Ganiyu Oke Saliu, the Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan, dated August 21, 2024, Chief Akande stated that he considers his appointment as a national call to service. Consequently, he does not intend to accept any personal remuneration. However, if any allowances are provided for attending Governing Council meetings or committee sessions, he has requested that these funds be used to benefit students enrolled in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Chief Akande suggested that the allowances be applied in the form of an endowment that could provide scholarships or other forms of financial support to cover the cost of accommodation and officially approved fees for the selected students. He proposed that the Dean of Student Affairs or another appropriate academic officer be involved in coordinating the selection of eligible recipients.

To ensure the sustainability of this initiative, Chief Akande also mentioned that in the event of any disruption to his allowances from the University, the Adebisi Akande Foundation, which is already incorporated for similar purposes, would step in to cover any shortfall. He further instructed that a copy of the memorandum be sent to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Adebisi Akande Foundation to facilitate the smooth implementation of this directive.

This generous gesture by Chief Akande underscores his commitment to advancing education and supporting the academic pursuits of science students at the University of Ibadan. The endowment is expected to provide significant relief to deserving students, ensuring they can continue their studies without financial strain.
