CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF APPROVES IMMEDIATE DEPLOYMENT OF SPECIAL FORCES TO PLATEAU STATE
Jos, Plateau State — February 9, 2026
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion of Special Forces to Plateau State to address the recent resurgence of terrorist attacks in the State.
The troops, who are already on ground, are expected to aggressively and decisively confront emerging security threats. Their deployment is anticipated to be a major game changer in ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across affected areas of Plateau State.
Receiving the troops at the Headquarters of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, represented by the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Brigadier General Senlong Sule, formally welcomed the Special Forces. He charged them to be decisive and ruthless in the conduct of offensive operations against terrorist elements.
Major General Oyinlola commended the proactive leadership of the Chief of Army Staff for approving the deployment and for providing the necessary combat enablers and logistics required for the effective execution of the troops’ mandate.
The GOC further appealed to residents of Plateau State to remain calm and not panic at the sight of increased troop movements and deployment of heavy military equipment. He appreciated the people of the State for their continued support to the military and called for sustained cooperation, particularly through the provision of timely and actionable intelligence on the activities and whereabouts of criminal elements, to aid ongoing operations and achieve lasting peace in the State.
