Christmas/New Year: IGP Directs Massive Deployment Nationwide for Safe, Peaceful Yuletide Celebrations

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has ordered a strategic and extensive deployment of police personnel and operational assets across Nigeria to ensure a safe, peaceful, and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration.
Under the Force’s proactive festive season security strategy, all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) and State Command Commissioners of Police (CPs) have been directed to intensify patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and confidence-building engagements throughout the holiday period.
Specialized units—including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Command, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, Special Intervention Squad, Highway Patrol, Marine Police, and Airwing—have been placed on heightened operational readiness to respond promptly to any security challenges.
The deployment emphasizes protection of places of worship, recreational centers, markets, parks, event venues, transport terminals, highways, critical national infrastructure, and other high-density public spaces. Additional patrol teams and surveillance units have been assigned to inter-state routes and major expressways to prevent road-related crimes, traffic disorder, and accidents. Officers on duty have been instructed to enforce the law firmly but courteously.
The IGP also ordered all Commands to sustain targeted raids on identified blackspots, criminal hideouts, forests, and flashpoints, while strengthening collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure holistic security coverage.
In his festive message, the Inspector-General wished all Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via available emergency lines.
