CLARIFYING THE NIGERIA–UK MIGRATION PARTNERSHIP

Abuja, Nigeria, March 23, 2026
The Federal Government has provided clarification on the Nigeria–United Kingdom Migration Partnership, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that the agreement aligns with national interest and international best practices.
In a statement released by relevant authorities and shared via official government platforms, the partnership was described as a framework designed to enhance cooperation on migration management, border control, and the prevention of irregular migration.
The government emphasized that the agreement does not compromise Nigeria’s sovereignty, nor does it impose any unfair obligations on the country. Instead, it seeks to promote safe, legal, and orderly migration while addressing shared concerns such as human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
Authorities further noted that the partnership includes provisions for capacity building, information sharing, and strengthened institutional collaboration between both countries.
The Federal Government reassured Nigerians that all engagements with the United Kingdom are guided by transparency and mutual respect, adding that citizens’ rights and welfare remain a top priority.
Citizens were also encouraged to rely on verified information from official sources and avoid misinformation regarding international agreements and migration policies.
