
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has lauded the unwavering dedication and resilience of troops stationed in Zamfara State, Nigeria, in their relentless fight against terrorism and insurgency in the North West region. During his operational visit to the 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, located in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, Gen Lagbaja expressed admiration for the troops’ sacrifices and achievements in the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity II.

Accompanied by the Commander of the 1 Brigade, Brig Gen Sani Ahmed, Gen Lagbaja received a comprehensive briefing on the troops’ activities and successes in combating insecurity in Zamfara and neighboring states. He commended their efforts and pledged continued support from the Nigerian Army, promising to provide additional combat enablers and operational resources to bolster their effectiveness in safeguarding the region.
In addition to his visit to the military base, the COAS also paid a courtesy call to the Emir of Gusau, HRH Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Bello Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, to express gratitude for the support of the royal father and the people of Gusau towards the Nigerian Army’s operations. Gen Lagbaja reassured the Emir and the community of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to addressing security challenges in the region, emphasizing that with sustained support and collaboration, terrorism and insurgency will be overcome.
The visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s determination to tackle security threats in Zamfara State and the wider North West region, reaffirming its dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the populace. As the fight against terrorism continues, the COAS’s assurance of support and cooperation highlights the importance of collective efforts in achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
