COAS VISITS 6 DIVISION, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO TROOPS’ WELFARE

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reassured officers and soldiers of 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), that their welfare remains a top priority of his command. He gave the assurance today, 9 January 2026, while addressing troops at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground during his maiden operational visit to Headquarters 6 Division, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.
The COAS reiterated that since assuming command, he has embarked on visits to various formations and units to obtain firsthand information on their operational readiness and to reassess challenges confronting personnel. He stated that deliberate steps are being taken to address these challenges, stressing that he places a high premium on the welfare of officers, soldiers, and their families. He charged troops of the Division to remain resolute in the discharge of their responsibilities, particularly in the protection of critical national infrastructure.
Lieutenant General Shaibu further called on troops of 6 Division to conduct their duties professionally and intensify efforts aimed at ensuring increased oil production in the Niger Delta Region (NDR) through sustained security operations. He urged them to remain disciplined, committed, and dedicated to the realisation of the Division’s mandate in line with his command philosophy.
Earlier, the COAS received a comprehensive briefing from the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, on the activities and operations of the Division within the NDR. The GOC also conducted the COAS on a tour of ongoing projects within the barracks and reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to achieving the COAS’ command philosophy.
Highlights of the visit included a symbolic tree-planting exercise by the COAS and accompanying Principal Staff Officers, as well as an interactive session with officers and soldiers. During the engagement, the COAS further reassured personnel of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and operational effectiveness.
