President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to Comrade Abiodun Aremu, a renowned unionist and human rights activist, who passed away on Sunday, October 13, in Ota, Ogun State.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu expressed deep sympathy with Nigeria’s labour movement and civil society on the loss of a “committed fighter” who dedicated his life to the cause of workers’ rights and social justice.

The President extended his condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late Comrade Aremu, describing him as a relentless advocate who devoted his time, energy, and resources to advancing the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers.

“Comrade Aremu was a courageous comrade who remained steadfast in his beliefs and never wavered in his defence of the oppressed,” President Tinubu said. “He was a teacher, an organiser, a conscience of the people. He shaped minds and inspired generations of Nigerians on integrity, justice, and patriotism.”

President Tinubu also commiserated with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the wider civil society community, who, he noted, have lost one of their most consistent and principled partners in the collective struggle for a fairer society.

Calling Aremu a “selfless patriot and a tireless fighter for the common good,” the President underscored the enduring impact of his activism on Nigeria’s labour and democratic landscape.

President Tinubu concluded his tribute with prayers for the peaceful repose of Comrade Aremu’s soul and strength for his family and loved ones during this period of grief.

Comrade Aremu, known for his unwavering commitment to justice and his vocal presence in Nigeria’s labour struggles, leaves behind a legacy of activism and service that will continue to inspire generations.
