Court Rules Against Bayero and Four Others, Upholds Emir Sanusi’s Position
Kano, Nigeria – The High Court in Kano State has issued a decisive ruling prohibiting the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four other former Emirs from laying claim to their titles. This injunction also prevents the former Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from presenting themselves as Emirs.

The ruling was issued in favor of Emir Sanusi, underscoring the court’s support for the current administration’s decisions regarding the traditional leadership structure in Kano. The decision extends to all employees and representatives of the former Emirs, explicitly forbidding any portrayal of them as Emirs.
Following the deposition, the Kano State government has taken additional measures, including issuing a 48-hour notice for the deposed Emirs to vacate their palaces. This action aims to solidify the changes in the traditional leadership and prevent any further claims to the royal titles by the deposed Emirs.
The legal actions and subsequent ruling highlight the ongoing complexities and tensions within the traditional leadership and governance in Kano State. The government’s firm stance on enforcing the court’s decision marks a significant shift in the region’s traditional hierarchy.
