Dangote Refinery Delays Petrol Production Start to Mid-July

Lagos, Nigeria — June 10, 2024 — The commencement of petrol production at the $20 billion Dangote Refinery in Lagos has been postponed from June to mid-July, according to Aliko Dangote, the President and CEO of Dangote Group.

During a meeting with journalists on Monday, Dangote confirmed the shift in the production timeline, attributing it to a minor delay. He assured that petrol would begin to be produced by mid-July.

“We had a bit of delay, but PMS will start coming out by 10 to 15 of July. But then we want to keep it in tank to make sure that it settles. So by the third week of July, we’ll be able to start taking it into the market,” Dangote stated.

The rescheduling marks a slight deviation from the initial plan, but Dangote emphasized the importance of ensuring the product’s quality before it hits the market. The Dangote Refinery, which is one of the largest in the world, is anticipated to significantly reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products and improve the nation’s economy.
