Dangote Refinery Refutes Claims of Selling PMS at N898 to NNPCL, Awaits Formal Pricing Announcement

The Dangote Refinery has strongly denied claims circulating that it is selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) at N898 per liter. In a press statement released on September 15, 2024, the refinery’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, described the statement attributed to NNPCL’s spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, as “misleading and mischievous.”

The statement stressed that such claims undermine the milestone achievement made on that day toward addressing the nation’s long-standing energy insufficiency and insecurity. The refinery clarified that the formal announcement of the pricing structure would be made by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which will commence on October 1, 2024.

The refinery also emphasized that its current crude stock was procured in dollars, and the products sold to NNPCL were similarly priced in dollars, offering significant savings compared to the importation costs. Dangote assured the public that, despite the false claims, petrol would soon be available across all local government areas in the country, with an aim to end the endemic fuel scarcity that has plagued the economy for decades.

The statement concluded by urging Nigerians to disregard the erroneous claims and assured them of the availability of quality petroleum products moving forward.

This development comes amid heightened expectations around the Dangote Refinery’s role in improving Nigeria’s energy security and self-sufficiency.
