The Nigerian Army on Wednesday decorated 28 senior officers with new ranks, as the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), charged them to justify their elevation through renewed dedication, enhanced professionalism, and unwavering loyalty to the nation. The ceremony, held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja, witnessed the promotion of 28 Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major General, including one posthumous elevation.

General Musa, who graced the event as the Special Guest of Honour, commended the officers for their courage, resilience, and years of selfless service. He noted that their promotion reflects their sustained commitment to safeguarding Nigeria and strengthening the operational capacity of the Army. Calling on the newly promoted generals to confront emerging security challenges with renewed vigour, he stated that their new positions entrust them with strategic responsibilities crucial to shaping the future of the Armed Forces.

“These officers are among the finest leaders in our Armed Forces,” he remarked, expressing pride in their accomplishments and confidence in their ability to deliver on national expectations.
The Defence Minister also underscored the importance of enhanced synergy among the military services and other security agencies. He stressed the need for improved intelligence sharing, inter-agency cooperation, and unity of purpose in tackling complex security threats.

While acknowledging the indispensable support of the officers’ families, he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving welfare and operational resources for military personnel. General Musa conveyed the goodwill of the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, assuring that the administration remains dedicated to strengthening the Armed Forces through better funding and capability enhancement.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, described the event as a significant milestone in the professional journeys of the officers. He emphasized that the Nigerian Army maintains a transparent, merit-based promotion system designed to reward competence, loyalty, and integrity. Promotion, he noted, remains a major motivator within the military hierarchy.

The COAS highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at boosting morale and welfare, including improved healthcare services, upgraded military infrastructure, and more conducive working conditions. He said the elevation of the senior officers reflects the Army’s trust in their ability to shoulder higher responsibilities and make greater contributions to national and international security efforts.

Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Major General Francis Omata expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the promotions. He reaffirmed the officers’ loyalty to the nation and pledged their continued dedication to duty. He also extended gratitude to the Minister of Defence and the COAS for their guidance, leadership, and unwavering support, which he described as critical to the officers’ professional growth.
