DRUG TRAFFICKER ABANDONS VEHICLE AS TROOPS OF OPERATION WHIRL STROKE FOIL DRUG MOVEMENT IN AKWANGA

Akwanga, Nasarawa State — October 14, 2025

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) conducting routine stop-and-search operations at a checkpoint in Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, intercepted a vehicle suspected to be transporting hard drugs on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The interception took place around Anguwan Malama.
The vehicle, an ash-coloured Toyota Solara bearing Lagos registration number KJA-108FY, was abandoned by the driver immediately upon spotting the troops. The suspect fled into nearby bushes and despite a swift pursuit by the troops, he successfully evaded arrest.


A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered several bags containing substances suspected to be marijuana. The vehicle along with the recovered exhibits are now under military custody pending further investigation and handover to the appropriate authorities.
The Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops for their vigilance, resilience, and professionalism that led to the successful interception. Speaking through the Commander of Sector 2, Brigadier General DC Nwakonobi, Major General Gara reiterated the unwavering commitment of Operation WHIRL STROKE to deny criminal elements freedom of movement, strengthen inter-agency cooperation, and maintain security across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.


The operation continues to serve as a critical effort in curbing drug trafficking and ensuring safety within the region.
