DSS ARRESTS SUSPECTED NOTORIOUS GUNRUNNER IN CROSS RIVER

Calabar, Nigeria — 16 March 2026
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected gunrunner, Kelvin Ebikeniye Dugo, in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
According to a statement by the DSS, the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspect was planning to procure a large cache of ammunition from a supplier based in Benue State.
The agency disclosed that the suspect was intercepted shortly after receiving the consignment, which had been cleverly concealed within food items to evade detection.
Items recovered during the operation include 832 rounds of live ammunition and two empty AK-47 magazines.
The DSS noted that the successful operation underscores its intensified nationwide crackdown on gunrunning and the proliferation of illegal arms, as part of efforts to enhance national security and curb criminal activities across the country.
Authorities further assured the public of their continued commitment to identifying and dismantling networks involved in the illegal arms trade.
