The Ebonyi State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnap attempt and neutralised members of a notorious criminal gang in separate operations across the state.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, operatives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command rescued the mother of a prominent personality in Isata community, Isu, Onicha Local Government Area, from the hands of suspected kidnappers.
Ukandu revealed that the swift operation was based on credible intelligence, which led to the arrest of three suspects, while one other gang member remains at large.
“The operatives, acting on an intelligence report, swiftly moved to the scene and foiled the kidnap attempt. Three suspects were apprehended, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing member of the gang,” the statement read in part.
In a related development, police operatives also neutralised two suspected hoodlums during a raid on their hideout in Iyonu community, Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
“The operation, which was carried out within the Iyonu/Idodo Forest, followed credible intelligence on the activities of the gang terrorising the area. On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire. At the end of the encounter, two of the suspects were neutralised,” Ukandu stated.
Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, two locally fabricated Dane guns, twenty rounds of 9mm ammunition, and five live cartridges.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, commended the operatives for their professionalism and bravery, assuring residents of Ebonyi State that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
“The suspects arrested will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. The Command will continue to intensify efforts to rid the state of criminal elements,” the Commissioner stated.
