EFCC Arraigns Fake EFCC Staff in Abuja

ABUJA, NIGERIA – May 28, 2026

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday arraigned one Salifu Olije Mustapha before Justice A.I. Akobi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly parading himself as an officer of the Commission.

Mustapha was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on impersonation and misrepresentation.

One of the charges alleged that the defendant, sometime in March 2026, falsely pretended to be a Nigerian Air Force officer and aided two other suspects, identified as Abubakar, who is currently at large, and Haruna Mamuda, who is undergoing investigation with another law enforcement agency.

According to the charge, Mustapha conveyed the suspects, who were dressed in EFCC operational uniforms, in a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTU399GT to Sheriff Plaza, Wuse II, Abuja, where they allegedly defrauded unsuspecting members of the public.

The charge stated that the offence contravened Section 84(c) and is punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Act.

Another count accused the defendant of impersonating a public servant by falsely presenting himself as an officer of the Nigerian Air Force and using the assumed identity to defraud members of the public, contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Act.

When the charges were read to him in court, Mustapha pleaded guilty to all four counts.

Following his guilty plea, prosecution counsel, R.U. Adaga, urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.

Justice Akobi subsequently adjourned the matter until June 1, 2026, for sentencing.

The EFCC disclosed that Mustapha was arrested by operatives of the Commission following actionable intelligence linking him to the impersonation of EFCC officers.

The Commission said he was specifically spotted wearing a fake EFCC uniform alongside two other suspects while allegedly harassing motorists and defrauding them in the process.
