EFCC Arrests 127 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Akure

Akure, June 8, 2024 — In a major crackdown, operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 127 suspected internet fraudsters in Akure, Ondo State.

The arrests were made during an early morning sting operation at a “Yahoo Party” held simultaneously at Signature and Abah Clubs on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The operation was part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime in the country.

According to credible intelligence, the party was initially scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2024, but was rescheduled to Saturday in an attempt to evade the EFCC’s security and intelligence networks. Despite this, the EFCC successfully executed the raid and apprehended the suspects.

Items recovered from the suspects include ten exotic cars, numerous phones, laptops, a motorcycle, wristwatches, and various incriminating documents. The suspects have provided valuable information to the investigators, aiding the ongoing inquiry into their activities.

An EFCC spokesperson stated that the suspects will face charges in court as soon as the investigations are concluded. The arrests underscore the EFCC’s commitment to eradicating cybercrime and bringing offenders to justice.

The public is encouraged to continue providing the EFCC with information on suspicious activities, as collaborative efforts are crucial in the fight against cybercrime.
